Seiko Black Monster experience
I am appealing to all diver watches fans and people who is searching for really and truly great deal for reasonable sum of money. Since I was large size and heavy timepieces fan (now with the age I more likely prefer solid classical watches) I had a lot of experience with all ranges production. Firstly I was a little arrogant and only look at watches with Swiss brand on it and quite big price too. But with experience come knowledge and wisdom. After a decade I was a little bored and decided to try something new. Then I found Seiko Black Monster. That Japanese watch company was well known for me, but I hadn't take bigger attention to its production.
When I saw all those people comments how awesome Seiko Black Monster is and seeing that it cost 3-5 times less than the mid-range of my collection, I thought they hadn't ever tried really good Swiss watch. However, after a few weeks I changed my mind.
First of all what cares to me is the build quality of the watch. From used materials to assemblage. The Seiko Black Monster 42mm case is 316L stainless steel, which considerable looks very well in the reality. The face offering no magnification window so it is very easy to read with the glow features. Seiko also is using Hardlex material to protect the dial window. At that moment I thought -
"Yes! Mine Swiss'es are better in that with Sapphire cover!". But after a moment I realized, that Hardex is cheaper and have almost the same features. Also, for divers it could be even better. You ask why? Yes, Saphire is better at scratch resistance, but in real world applications, like diving Hardex doesn't have any performance downgrades. Or I hadn't heard about it. So maybe Seiko took a good decision to use this material.
The second thing I love to talk is movement. Seiko in this watch used 21 jewel Seiko 7S26 movement, which is running at 21,600 bph. For some who doesn't know, it is equivalent to 5 ticks per second. Of course, in this area 3-5 expensive watches would win against Black Monster, but look at the price. Here some case why. First of all, the second hand does not stop when the crown is pulled out, so that makes it difficult to synchronize. Accuracy is pretty fine. Watch is keeping time to within 10 seconds per day. The watch is also have about 24 hours energy reserve.
The last point would be the comfort wearing that Monster. Every of the bracelet's subsequent links are made from solid steel. In case to prevent components to dig into the wrist, each of them is being feather-edged. What every diver should love is that the the bracelet incorporates a clever hidden diver's extension. In overall, I don't have to say anything bad about wearing it every day.
Not to spread out too much, Seiko Black Monster suprised me in a good way. It was a light moment, when you realised that a watch costing under 200 dollars can compete with much pricey timepieces. I can truly recommend Seiko Men's SKX779 model to every men, who is searching for the best in this price range.
